Dear colleagues,

The revival of „In Spite of Wishing and Wanting“ by Ultima Vez/Wim Vandekeybus will open the program – breathtaking, energetic men’s dance from Belgium at its best! Noé Soulier, currently France’s greatest choreographic talent, will develop choreographic fragments at the limits of balance from the initiation of athletic movement. I am also looking forward to the world premiere of Laurent Chétouane’s solo with the dancer Mikael Marklund – a game of foreignness, falling and one’s own endless mortality/endless finiteness.

The symposium will focus on the “in between” as a space of negotiation between dancers and their audience as well as participatory formats in contemporary choreographic practice. In this context, the works by Doris Uhlich, Ivo Dimchev and Pere Faura can be seen in a new light. Doris Uhlich’s dancers get caught – with us – in the whirlpool of techno-fueled rituals of ecstatic movement. In “P project”, Dimchev ventures to the limits of interaction between performers and audience members. Faura plays with the audience’s desires and expectations.

Stefan Dreher’s “Dancing Marathon” into the Munich night, “Who’s next?” – an open stage for new artistic works by course participants and the celebrated Final Lecture will join dance and participation until the TANZWERKSTATT EUROPA finally ends in a dance party.
